I’ve tried several countdown plugins, this is the best by far. What it lacks in looks it more than makes up in options. It’s also a very lightweight plugin. It’s called Easy Timer by Kleor.

You can have the countdown timer display the remaining time in the following ways. By using simple shortcodes.

[dhmstimer] (or [timer]) to display the remaining time in days, hours, minutes and seconds
[dhmtimer] to display the remaining time in days, hours and minutes
[dhtimer] to display the remaining time in days and hours
[dtimer] to display the remaining time in days
[hmstimer] to display the remaining time in hours, minutes and seconds
[hmtimer] to display the remaining time in hours and minutes
[htimer] to display the remaining time in hours
[mstimer] to display the remaining time in minutes and seconds
[mtimer] to display the remaining time in minutes
[stimer] to display the remaining time in seconds

After the countdown is complete you can choose to display a image, text, etc. using basic html.

In fact you can have one countdown trigger another. Why would you want to do this? What if you want have a countdown to New Years Day or any set day really. You set it up a few years ahead and forgot about it.

Some other options:

  • You can use it in widgets and posts/pages!
  • You have to option to “count up” to an event with the same remaining time options as the countdown
  • Use it as a basic display clock.
  • Display the current year, month, day, etc
  • Offset with timezone

There isn’t a admin screen for this plugin. Isn’t needed but it would be nice to have basic admin page with all the different options listed there for reference. But the plugin link does point to the documentation on how to use this great plugin.

Complete Documentation is available here.

Be sure to check it out, it’s a the best one I’ve found for WordPress.
